2025 CALIFORNIA INFRASTRASTRUCTURE REPORT CARD

Last month, ASCE Region 9 released the 2025 California Infrastructure Report Card on the west steps of the Capitol in Sacramento, bringing together civil engineers and infrastructure leaders from across California.

The report gives California an overall grade of C-, a clear reminder that our roads, water systems, and other essential infrastructure require serious attention. More importantly, it reinforces a simple and urgent message: California needs steady, consistent investment to ensure infrastructure remains safe, reliable, and resilient for the future.

As we begin 2026, we are energized and committed to bringing this report card to the forefront of conversations with our local, regional, and state leaders, driving meaningful action to improve California’s infrastructure for generations to come.

UPCOMING EVENTS

APWA | ASCE JOINT LUNCHEON

Join APWA Silicon Valley and ASCE San Jose Branch to kick off the new year with an informative luncheon on Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) a critical component of modern infrastructure projects. It involves the investigation, mapping, and management of underground utilities such as water, gas, electric, telecommunications, and sewer lines. Accurate utility data helps reduce risk, prevent costly delays, and enhance safety throughout the design and construction process. Using advanced technologies like ground-penetrating radar (GPR), electromagnetic locating, and vacuum excavation, SUE provides essential information that supports informed decision-making and minimizes utility conflicts. This session will highlight how SUE aligns with ASCE 38-22, the latest national standard for utility investigations. The standard outlines quality levels, best practices, and documentation methods that ensure consistent, reliable subsurface utility data across all project stages.

Date: January 21, 2026

Time: 11:30 am – 1:00 pm

Location: Michael’s at Shoreline

2960 N Shoreline Blvd,
