Join us tomorrow for some networking, lunch, and a great presentation. This month we will welcome Jose Gutierrez from Westlands Water District to talk about the Valley Clean Infrastructure Plan (VCIP). VCIP Summary As California pursues ambitious clean energy, water sustainability, and climate resiliency goals, land repurposing has emerged as an important strategy for balancing environmental priorities and inconsistent water supply with long -term economic stability. As the San Joaquin Valley faces chronic water supply unreliability, farmers have been forced to fallow farmland, accelerating the need for alternative, economically viable land uses that sustain local communities. The Valley Clean Infrastructure Plan as a transformative initiative that demonstrates how land repurposing can deliver an array of benefits for California. VCIP is a master-planned approach to solar generation, battery storage, and transmission on up to 136,000 acres of drainage-impaired or water constrained agricultural land. By repurposing farmland to clean energy uses, the project promotes groundwater sustainability, improves water supply reliability, supports continued agricultural operations in the region, and creates new economic opportunities in rural communities. VCIP offers an innovative model for integrating clean energy deployment with water management and regional economic resilience – positioning land repurposing as a strategic investment in California’s future. |
