To SF Section Leaders,
The Multi Region Leadership Conference (MRLC) for Regions 8 and 9 will take place on Friday, January 17 and Saturday, January 18, 2025 in San Diego, CA. The MRLC, which is comprised of the Western Region Younger Member Council (WRYMC), Workshop for Section, Branch, and Institute Leaders (WSBIL), and Workshop for Student Chapter Leaders (WSCL), provides a venue for upcoming leaders to gain knowledge of the Society and their Region, interact with students, younger members, section, branch, and institute leaders, while gaining personal leadership skills and learning the importance of networking. Information about each workshop, registration costs, and available funding is described in detail below.
The conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa & Marina San Diego. The group room rate is $239.00 per night for a single or double occupancy. Reservations must be made by December 26, 2024 to qualify for the discounted room rate.
As a leader within the San Francisco Section, we encourage you to share this information with your respective groups (branches, institutes, younger member forums, and student chapters). It is recommended that at least one representative from your group attend; however, more participants are always encouraged!
San Francisco Section Dinner
As with most MRLCs, San Francisco Section will be hosting a dinner and inviting representatives from the SF Section and their guests to attend. The dinner will be held on Friday, January 17th. Additional details are forthcoming; however, we do ask each group to provide a preliminary list of expected MRLC attendees by Friday, December 13th. This will allow us sufficient time to find a venue that can accomodate our group. Members on this preliminary list will have priority registration for the dinner.
Additional information is provided below. If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to reach out. I hope to see many of you in San Diego!
Western Region Younger Member Council (WRYMC)

Workshop for Section, Branch, and Institute Leaders (WSBIL)
Participation in the WSBIL gives Section and Branch leaders an opportunity to exchange ideas and share experiences with one another. It exposes your incoming officers to the tools and resources needed to be an effective ASCE leader, allowing them to strengthen and expand your programs and activities. Learn more here.
Registration
$300
Funding
The Society reimburses one (1) delegate from each Section and Branch for the cost of transportation, not in excess of coach class airfare, for those traveling more than 100 miles round-trip. Other expenses, including lodging, meals, etc., are included in the per diem rate of $175.00 (maximum of 2 days per diem).  Reservations must be made at least two weeks in advance to secure low-cost airfares. The reimbursement form will be distributed at the conference’s adjournment.
To ensure that your Section and/or Branch receives the maximum possible benefit, you are encouraged to designate the President-elect, Vice President or Secretary-Treasurer as the delegate. If this is not possible, consider a Younger Member growing into a responsible position within the Section or Branch.  (Please note that WSBIL attendees are only eligible for Society reimbursement once every four years.)
Institute leaders should contact their institute directly to inquire about reimbursement opportunities. You can see the current list of institute contacts in our Staff Directory here.
Workshop for Student Chapter Leaders (WSCL)

The WSCLs provide an opportunity for student chapter leaders to network with fellow officers, ASCE younger members and regional leaders; learn more about the Society and the resources ASCE provides; and receive personal leadership training. Learn more here.
Registration
Please refer to the WSCL website for information about registration as there are strict limits on the number of attendees. Students must coordinate with their student chapter to register.
Funding
Participating student chapters will receive a $500 travel stipend after the event. Additionally, student chapters may submit proposals to their respective Branch to receive additional funding if the Branch budget allows. Student chapters are encouraged to engage with their local YMFs and Branches to take advantage of the resources the YMF and Branch can offer.
Practitioner and Faculty Advisor Workshop (PFATW)
This year the PFATW is returning to the WSCL. Sessions will run concurrently with WSCL sessions. Chapters wishing to send an advisor to the PFATW will be allowed one additional registration space but will only receive a stipend of $300. Additional details to come, if you have questions, please contact student@asce.org.
