October Luncheon – New Clovis South Ed. Center

Jeff Berrios from PBK Architects gave a fascinating presentation about the new Terry Bradley Educational Center (TBEC), which is home to Clovis South High School, Sanchez Intermediate, and a future elementary school. This campus is the costliest K-12 campus in the state, well exceeding the original CUSD budget of $300M (it’s running about $430M and will end at roughly $500M!).

He outlined the very complex phasing schedule due to the size of the project and DGS requiring the review sizes to be broken into smaller pieces (seven!).

The middle school opened up this past August to grades 7, 8 and 9. One more grade will be added each year to fill up the high school which is still under construction.

September’s Annual Awards Dinner – Best in 30 Years!

Thanks to the herculean effort by Priscilla Cullers and the planning of President Shawn Cullers, the Annual Awards Dinner was the best in a long, long time. Fresno County Supervisor (and former Mayor of Clovis), Nathan Magsig was the featured speaker (he’s running for a State Senate seat in 2026). Rick Ransom received the Lifetime Achievement Award. And four professors and seven students from the new UC-Merced Student Chapter were among the 100+ people who attended.

There’s No “Free Lunch”… but there is “FREE BEER”

That’s right… the first 10 people to show up to The Backyard Social Club at or after 5 pm on Thursday, November 20th will get a beer at the Branch’s expense. Come by and socialize with your fellow engineers and wind down after a long week. The address is 1542 Clovis Avenue (just NW of Lowes in Clovis). After a beer or two, we can walk up the street to Old Town Clovis for One Enchanted Evening.

One Enchanted Evening is one of Old Town’s most anticipated events! Thousands of people come down to enjoy the old-fashioned holiday open house.

There will be groups of Carolers to lift your spirits with their holiday songs. Hot Chocolate is being made specially by groups of Santa’s elves, and strings of white lights decorate the shops of Old Town. Old Town merchants dress up their shops in their holiday best to greet visitors during the holiday season. Horse-drawn carriage rides add to the magic of the season, and luminaries help light the way through the dark of the night.
